Who was Veer Tejaji?
Veer Tejaji is believed to have been born at Kharnal in Nagaur district into a Jat family (Wikipedia: 1074–1103 CE). He is remembered as a protector of cows and a hero who kept his word.
The legend says he saved a snake (Basak Naag) from a fire. When the snake wanted to bite him, he promised to return after rescuing his friend Lachha Gujari’s cattle from raiders. He came back and offered himself; the snake blessed him to be worshipped as a deity in Kali Yuga.
Devotees believe Tejaji protects against and heals snakebite. Fairs are held at his shrines on Teja Dashmi (Bhadrapada Shukla Dashami); Kharnal (birthplace) and Sursura in Ajmer (where he died) are the main dhams.
