Veer Tejaji — the folk deity

Veer Tejaji is a folk deity of Rajasthan, believed to be born at Kharnal in Nagaur district. He is worshipped as protector of cattle and farmers and as a guard against snakebite. On Bhadrapada Shukla Dashami (Teja Dashmi), fairs and night-long jagrans are held across the region, including at Lunsara’s Tejaji temple, and bhopas sing his ballad.

Traditions

Ways of the village

Temples and faith

Fifteen temples, a Dadu Dwara and the Madina Masjid — shrines of folk deities like Tejaji, Baba Ramdev, Gogaji, Pabuji and Devnarayan define the village.

Bhajan sandhya and jagran

Festivals bring night-long jagrans, bhajan evenings and kathas — such as the Bhagwat Katha at Dadudwara Lunsara.

Care for cows

The Jai Santoshi Maa Gau Seva Samiti (since 2009) cares for hundreds of cows; events like “Ek Shaam Go Mata ke Naam” are held in the village.

Panghat and talab

The village pond and panghat are still at the heart of daily life — newspapers have written about the anklets heard at the panghat.
